When we had Lizzy's appointment with the specialist in Omaha, the second test they did was the VCUG, which is an x-ray to find out how the VUR is behaving. Before we got started, the nurses looked at me and said, "if there's any chance you might be pregnant, you need to leave the room." So I thought to myself, well, I guess there's always a chance, but I'm sure I'm not. Jon and I decided I better step out, so as I was in the next room I started thinking, "well, maybe I'm late." And the rest of the day it was in the back of my mind. So, on our way home that night we stopped to buy a pregnancy test, and sure enough, POSITIVE!! Jon was overjoyed at that exact moment, but it really took a while for the news to sink in for me. I was just so shocked!! We had a hard time conceiving Elizabeth, so to get pregnant like this was just such a surprise for me. And so different from the last time. What a blessing!
As the weeks went on, the news sunk in and I knew it was really real when I started getting sick, around week six or seven. I had a hard time keeping food down and was nauseated pretty much all day every day, which made keeping up with Lizzy a little bit tricky. Thank goodness for Jon and nice weather. Lizzy and Jon spent a lot of evenings going for long walks so that mommy could "rest." Lizzy is very much a mommy's girl and wants mommy to do everything for her, so it was probably good for the two of them to spend so much time together. When baby comes, Lizzy will have to share mommy and maybe this was a good start to that. We have had several ultrasounds because my hormone levels have not been great and each time baby looks great. We got to see peanut for the first time at eight weeks and it was amazing how much you could already see! The gestational sack was measuring just a little bit small, so we had another ultrasound at 12 weeks, but now the worry is over for that, and I'll take the extra peek at baby any time! The first time we heard the heartbeat on the doppler (at 10 weeks) the heartbeat was in the high 170s! Wow! Each time after that it has been in the 140s (just like with Lizzy). So far, the pregnancy feels very similar to my pregnancy with Lizzy. The only difference so far has been that I didn't lose a bunch of weight in the first trimester. Although it felt like I wasn't keeping anything down, I must have :) I also had more of an appetite this time, even when I was so sick.
So, that's the baby news!! Here are a few pictures from the rest of July and early August. More updates to come!!
Jon and I spent our sixth anniversary (wow, time flies!) in Kansas City. It was super hot, but we had a great time relaxing, shopping, and eating some good food!
We had a backyard BBQ with the Kolalas, Horners, and Angie. Here's Lizzy and Aiden playing in the sandbox. They're exactly one week apart.
Cousins Jordyn and Taylor came for a visit and babysat while all the mommies and daddies went out to eat.
This girl loves tomatoes. She loves to go to the garden and pick them herself. Yes, she eats them whole like this. Funny girl.
Looks like she enjoyed that blue sucker after swimming lessons :)
Her other summer food love, corn!
She started smiling for the camera. Most of the time it's a cheesy grin, but this one's pretty cute.
