The last month has brought many, many changes for our family. Let's start with Miss Elizabeth. Lizzy said good-bye to one of the last pieces of babyhood last week when she moved up to the toddler (Monkey) room at daycare. She is no longer in the infant (Ladybug) room, which makes everyone a little bit sad. She is having a little bit of a rough time with the transition. The mornings are the toughest. When I drop her off, she points to the Ladybug room and cries, as if saying "mommy, I go in there remember!!?!" It breaks my heart a little every time, but they tell me it doesn't take her too long to be OK in the Monkey room now. Though we will miss her Ladybug teachers VERY much, we already really like the Monkey teachers, too. They even let Lizzy carry around her blanky when she is feeling sad, which makes everyone feel a little better. We knew this would be hard for Lizzy, so her teachers have been very kind during the transition. It is so wonderful to have daycare that really understands your child and wants to do what is best for them. I know I said she is having a bit of a tough time with the transition, but the truth is she is doing way better than we all expected her to do! Change is hard for Miss Elizabeth, especially when it deals with new people, but she is already coming home with "I had a GREAT day" reports in the Monkey room. So, we are sad to see her leave the wonderful Ladybug room, but at the same time we're pretty excited for the Monkeys, too! The Monkeys have a set schedule throughout the day, go outside twice a day, and even get to go on field trips!! Jon is accompanying the Monkeys on their trip to the zoo this week.... I think everyone will have a great time! One more story from the Monkey room... they sleep on mats. That's right, my 16-month-old is napping on a mat. Not a crib. Not a pack and play. A mat. And on the very first day she walked right over to her mat, grabbed her blanky and binky, laid down, and went right to sleep. She's got the nap thing down!
As for the other big change at our house, I started my new job last week. So while Lizzy was starting her new room, mommy was starting a new adventure too. And let me tell you, I couldn't be more excited about it! I am doing marketing part-time for CEDARS, a non-profit that helps abused, neglected, and homeless children find loving homes. My eyes were opened to a whole new world this week, as I was able to meet some of the kids in CEDARS' shelters and see how many kids right here in Lincoln are in need of a loving home. While it was sad and heavy-hearted, I am thankful to have this job and to be in it to give a voice to these kids. When we decided a career change was best for me, I knew I wanted to spend my time away from Lizzy doing something worthwhile, and this job perfectly fits the bill. While I am there I know I am helping kids who really need it and I get to spend more time with Lizzy. Seriously, perfect.
Other than those two huge changes, we have been keeping super busy! Here are some photos from the last month:
We bought a swing set. Every time we went in the back yard, Lizzy pointed to all the neighbors' swing sets. It was our first guilty purchase as parents.
Lizzy helped by cleaning out the wheelbarrow.
The slide was even fun when it was laying in the grass.
It's not as easy as it looks, folks! Thanks for the help mom and dad Z!
Helping out by sorting bolts and washers
And fixing the ladder with a tiny screwdriver
Ahh, finally swinging in the back yard!
She had TONS of fun making macaroni salad for mommy.
This folding couch is endless fun, too!
A rare shot with mommy. Look at that little cutie! (Yes, I mean Lizzy)
This is my attempt to get a good photo of all her curls. I love them!
My cousins moved back to Humphrey and had a party before the street dance. It was super fun, as you'll see in the photos.
With my cousins, Sheila and Katie. We had such a fun night!
A sibling shot. And having some fun!
I guess we didn't prepare Jeremy for the silly shot. Oh well.
And here's one with the in-laws. What a crew!
A photo with cousins Ryan and Sheila... and Jon, the photo-bomber
Aww!
With my oldest friend and neighbor, Virginia and her little girl, Charlie. Virginia and I were inseparable growing up, but it had been years since we'd seen each other. It was so nice to see her and meet Miss Charlie!
And for our girls to meet each other
We tried to get one with our husbands, but it's a little shady.
Here's Jon showing off the rain barrel to some friends.
And Lizzy getting a drink. Oh my.
Enjoying a little R&R with our friends, Kelly, Lexi, and Emmy, in the back yard.
So cute!
This girl LOVES to swing!
Playing with Lexi
Swinging with momma
Drawing a railroad with chalk with daddy
And having lots of fun.
This little lady loves to play in the rocks and load them in her bucket, then stir them with her shovel.
Paul and Aunt Colleen love the sandbox, too!
Everybody loves the sandbox!
Even girly little Lizzy
We had a nice BBQ in the back yard with lots of family. A good time was had by all!
Grandpa Charlie was enjoying himself.
And Paul was having some fun, too!
He even got to swing with Aunt Sarah.
Grandma J and Paul
Saying good bye
