What came up the last week or so was the stomach flu. When we went to get poor Miss Elizabeth on Monday morning we discovered she had vomited in her crib sometime overnight. The poor thing didn't even cry. How sad is that? Well, she had a fever and was pukey until Tuesday night. On Wednesday, we thought she was getting better, and Grandma Janice came to hang out with her on Thursday as an extra cushion day before returning to daycare. Right before Gma left on Thursday evening, Lizzy threw up again. :( She was feeling pretty rotten on Friday as well, but got better and better on Saturday and Sunday. I'm happy to report she is finally acting herself again. Whew! That was our first bout with the stomach flu and I completely understand why mommies do whatever they can to avoid it. It was a long week, especially when there's not much you can do for the little ones. Of course, worry-wort-mommy was always concerned that it was her VUR and she had a UTI/kidney infection. Thank God the antibiotics are still working and it was just a stomach flu.
Speaking of VUR... yesterday was the one-year anniversary of Lizzy's hospitalization with her VUR. What a difference a year makes. One year ago I was agonizing over what might be wrong with my brand new baby. She was only six weeks old and we were new parents. To say we were emotionally fragile would be an understatement. We went to the ER on Monday night at about 10:30 pm and didn't find out until Wednesday/Thursday she had VUR. At the time, it was welcome news because we feared something worse. I still thank God for our pediatrician who - contrary to the other visiting pediatricians - recommended we have the test done to find out if it was VUR. If we hadn't done that, she would have been right back in the hospital with another UTI and kidney infection. In the past year, the daily antibiotics have done their job keeping the infections at bay and we meet with her specialist at Children's Hospital in July to find out if she might have grown out of it. Prayers for good news!
Now, on to better news! Elizabeth is all but walking. She is always standing up and can even crouch down to pick something up and stand back up again. She takes a few steps, but usually ends up on her bottom after three or four steps. You can tell she really wants to do it, though. She will stand by the couch and then get a look in her eye and just take off. It's the cutest thing!! Last Monday (3/28) was the first time she took off on her own without any coaxing from me or Jon. She just walked eight feet or so by herself. I love the new independence for her but it means one more step away from babyhood and one more step toward toddlerhood.
In addition to walking, she's also a jabberbox. She loves to say "mama" and "dada" and her version of Lucy, which sounds more like "shooshe" :) It's so funny to hear her ramble on and on about things, too. More often than not her jabbering is in the form of a whisper. She's so girly. Yesterday she was playing with her toys and jabbered for about a minute straight. She has so many important things to say! Adorable!
Her bye-bye wave has now progressed to opening and closing her hand rather than waving her whole arm up and down. This is one of my favorites. It's so precious to see her tiny little hands wave like that. And yes, she still follows her bye-bye wave with blowing kisses.
If you ask her where something is or say "I don't know" she shrugs her shoulders and puts her hands up, palms up. It's super cute.
On Sunday, Jon taught her where her belly is. If you ask her, she will lift up her shirt and touch her tummy. I'm not sure who was more proud of this accomplishment; daddy or Lizzy.
Our little lady has a little sense of humor. She makes herself laugh sometimes, but mostly cracks up from Lucy or Jon. If she hears Jon or I laughing she usually starts, too. So funny! She has also turned into a little imitator. She tries to make the same funny faces we do. I think she may take after Jon a little bit in the silliness area.
Well, I believe that about sums it up for now. We are having so much fun with our little girl. One more thing, she LOVES being outside. I guess this mama is going to need to be a little more outdoorsy. She loves going for walks in the stroller, and stopping to say hello to all the neighbors (just like her daddy). Her favorite thing to do outside is take all the rocks out of the landscaping and put them on the sidewalk. Then, when I ask her, she puts them back. Such a good little girl!
Ok, really, that's the end of this update. Enjoy a few photos....
Her mommy's favorite color is purple...
You want a sip, mommy?
Dressed in green for St. Patty's Day
Back to loving the bath, thank goodness
What a mess...
Yes, she's wearing a birthday girl shirt. She had puked a couple of times already and this was the first shirt I found. On this day she walked completely on her own (without coaxing) for the first time.
With Gramma J just before she got sick again...
Making daddy proud (that's a calculator in her hands)
