the first week of the year

Well, the first week of 2011 didn't happen exactly as I expected, but then again, that's usually the way it goes. Grandpa Gene has been through the ringer this week and after lots of tests, prayers, and hospital time we now know he has a cancerous tumor in his lungs. He is 80 years old and so health problems should be expected, but to know my Grandpa Gene is to know a man with so much energy and flair for life that when he gets sick it IS unexpected. He has a good attitude, though, and if he can then so can the rest of us. Grandpa Gene, you are one of the best examples I know for what it means to really LIVE and we pray you will overcome this like so many other things.

Back at our home we are staying busy as ever. An update in the life of Lizzy wouldn't be complete without mentioning that the little stinker STILL refuses any kind of solid food. She's great with her baby food and bottle, but anything solid comes right back out, accompanied by a stink face. We've tried everything; cheerios, puffs, crackers, mashed potatoes, even ice cream - to no avail. Ah... just another lesson for this control freak of a mommy to relax and let Lizzy do it in her own time. She does love to gather all the little cheerios (or whatever we give her) in her little hands. She can store a lot in those tiny little hands! And when I go to take them away she usually protests. So precious! Other than that, Lucy is beginning to learn that sitting under the high chair is a pretty great place to be. :)

One night this week I decided to let Lizzy feed herself some bananas with her spoon. Hahaha, so funny! She had bananas e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e but she seemed to think it was fun and mommy and daddy got some good laughs.

And here we are helping Lucy celebrate her 5th birthday. I love my girls!!

  1. I always thought we had clean eaters, until we had the kids at my parents and no dogs to clean up what they dropped (or in Harpers case, threw to them!)!! Dogs are great for that :-)

  2. LOVE your blog! Have you tried the Yo Baby yogurt for Lizzy? That's always a good transitional food-or tiny bits of a Nutragrain bar or a blueberry waffle? Sometimes if it's a little sweet, they start to go for it!

  3. Brenda, it is nice to have a little sweeper under the high chair. We tried so hard not to give Lucy any food so she wouldn't beg but of course that's all gone out the window now! Lizzy also quickly figured out that's what Lucy wants so she likes to hand them to her on purpose also.

Kelly, we have tried just about everything. I have tried yogurt, but not the baby yogurt yet. It is frustrating, but we try at least twice every day, hoping one of these days she just takes it. I know Jon and I were both picky eaters when we were kids, so this is probably something she got from both of us. In the grand scheme of things, this is a small complaint for sure!!
